2nd Annual NJ 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Draws 239 Climbers and Raises Approximately $60,000 for Fallen Firefighters
Annual event at MetLife Stadium nearly doubles fundraising total and sees a significant increase in participation in its second year.
RUTHERFORD, N.J. — September 2026 — The 2nd Annual NJ 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
was held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at MetLife Stadium, bringing together 239
climbers to honor and remember the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September11, 2001.
The second annual event marked significant growth from its inaugural year. In 2025, 166 climbers participated and approximately $30,000 was raised. This year, participation increased to 239 climbers and the event raised approximately $60,000 — doubling the amount raised in its first year. Every dollar raised through the NJ 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), supporting its mission to honor America’s fallen fire heroes and provide resources and assistance to their families.
“The growth of the NJ 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in just its second year is a powerful reflection
of how deeply this mission resonates with firefighters, first responders and communities
throughout New Jersey and beyond,” said David L. Russell, Chair of the Partners’ Council
for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. “Each person who climbed, volunteered,
sponsored or supported this event helped ensure that our fallen heroes are remembered andthat their families continue to know they are never alone. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and generosity that made this year’s climb such a tremendous success.”
The stair climb gives participants the opportunity to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost
their lives on September 11, 2001, while also remembering all fallen firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Climbers take on the stairs of MetLife Stadium in a powerful act of remembrance, reflection and service.
The success of this year’s event would not have been possible without the generous support of
its sponsors, including United Airlines, Jersey City Medical Center, Turtle Plastics,
Function Health, Provident Bank, Ricochet Gear, New Jersey Fire Equipment, BELFOR /
1-800-BOARDUP, Darley, and Drucker, Math & Whitman.
Organizers also extend their sincere appreciation to every climber, volunteer, sponsor, firefighter, first responder, family member and supporter who helped make the second annual event such a meaningful success.
With participation increasing by nearly 44 percent and fundraising doubling from the inaugural event, the NJ 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb continues to grow while remaining centered on its most important purpose: ensuring that the courage, sacrifice and memory of fallen firefighters are never forgotten.
