Service Philosophy
Fire & Safety Services Ltd., is the New Jersey sales and service representative for Pierce Manufacturing Inc. of Appleton, WI., the builders of Pierce Fire Apparatus. It is our position that the service given on an apparatus is almost more important than the manufacturer itself. There are many good apparatus manufacturers. What will make the apparatus purchased really beneficial to the owner is the ability to keep the unit in service with a minimum of downtime and for many years to come, frequently 20 or more.
We have set up our organization to give the service after the sale as outlined above. Fire & Safety Services Ltd. has been in business since 1964, with it principal offices and shops originally Piscataway, N.J. but now in South Plainfield, N.J. We have a 13,145 square feet service and parts facility, with spacious fenced yard surrounding the facility. In addition, there is 3,055 square feet of office and administrative space. The property totals about 4 acres.
In addition to service offered at our facility, we offer service on the road with ten service vans and one heavy duty utility body unit. Mechanics with service vans are stationed strategically throughout the State. Two remaining vans are operated from our Piscataway location on an as needed basis. A description of the parts carried on the vans and the credentials of the mechanics are listed below.
It has always been our goal to employ persons who in addition to their skills required for our business, serve or have served in the fire service either career or volunteer. Almost all of the people in our sales, service, and parts departments meet these criteria. We feel that the experience with the fire service or in difficult emergency conditions makes people realize the importance of keeping their equipment in top condition and getting repairs completed promptly and the apparatus and equipment back in service. We have a total of 24 persons in our service and parts facilities. Our shop is ASE Blue Seal of Service Excellence certified and employees are EVT certified emergency apparatus mechanics, including seven who are Level III Master Fire Apparatus Technicians. In addition, we were awarded the Pierce Service Organization of the Year award in two out of the three years this award has been made.
Our service department is regularly open from 7AM to 5PM Monday through Friday with the exception of National Holidays. Our service manager and shop foreman are accessible 24hrs a day via pager and emergency service is available at all times. Routine service work and repairs, which do not place the apparatus out of service will be performed during regular working hours either at our South Plainfield facility or in your fire station.
